OUR TRADITIONS
Mirano is located in the Italian region "Veneto". This region
has gone through a very important economical development in the last 20
years, but we like to still remember the time when our economy was still
based on the agriculture and when our grandparents were working really
hard to create our wealthy present.
ARCHITECTURE
During those times the typical style the houses were built was what we
call "casone veneto", of which you can still find a few
examples around the area today (see the picture on the top right
corner). The roof was usually made of straw and canes, and inside the
bed mattresses were stuffed with corn leaves....not really as
comfortable as our modern ones!
TOOLS
Here on the side you can see a few pictures of some of the tools used
for the every day agricultural work. The wicker basket and the machine
that was used to take the corns out of the panicle.
CUSTOMS
As our grandparents tell us, it was custom during the winter time to
meet in the stables or at each others house to spend time together
sharing the good and bad things that the every day life was bringing.
These meetings were called filò. Still today we use the same expression
when we meet up with friends for a nice chat....it is of course very
different, better for the conveniences we are used to, worse sometimes
when you realize that the old feeling of simplicity is lost.
During your stay with us we would be very welcome to share this cultural
heritage with you and we would be more than happy to hear about the
traditions and customs of your own countries...... after all it is
always a good time for an intercultural exchange!
